Dialogue, Discussion, Drama:
Dealing with Bullying, Peer-Pressure and Prejudice in Children Ages
8- 12
“Urban Improv gives kids
the physical experience of what it feels like to engage in peaceful
resolution to difficult conflicts, and by practicing different solutions,
they expand their ability to consider a range of options and appreciate
other people’s points of view. Our research has shown that
Urban Improv makes a substantial difference in these kids’
lives.”

About Urban Improv's
Teacher Training Seminar:
For
more than 13 years, Urban Improv has offered classroom-based
workshops and community assembly programs in Greater Boston
and throughout New England. Now, this nationally recognized
youth violence prevention program is pleased to offer its
second Teacher Training Seminar for professionals working
with young people ages 8 to 12.
Urban Improv's effectiveness has been recognized by the Hamilton
Fish Institute on School and Community Violence. The powerful
results of a three year evaluation, proving that Urban Improv
prevents 4th graders from becoming more violent, aggressive
and disruptive, wile enabling them to pay closer attention
and engage more in school, will be published this spring in
the Journal of School Violence.
This seminar will involve participants in Urban Improv's proven approach and will offer specific guidance in helping educators speak about and confront issues of bullying, peer-pressure and prejudice with their students. Seminar participants will have the opportunity to act in structured improvisations with our team of expert actors/educators, and will explore topics in depth with their peers.
In addition, the Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute
will introduce an innovative new curriculum guide for teachers
interested in using Urban Improv methodology in the classroom.
